Scholarship Award Criteria

This scholarship gives priority to Black, African American, and Black mixed-race students.

Other criteria include:

  • A descendant of slaves; note: documented proof is not required. If there is no documented proof, applicants will be asked to share what they know about their family history regarding enslavement. 
  • A resident and/or student anywhere in the United States. 
  • Age 18-30 at the time the award is granted; transfer and re-entry students are encouraged to apply.
  • Demonstrate financial need.
  • A GPA of 3.0 or higher
