I painted this image for the Caste Action Alliance 2025 Retreat in Pittsburg, California. The setting is the Oakland Bay; the dancers are looking across the Bay to the San Francisco skyline. Two of the dancers are our co-founders, Bry-Andi Brandon and Carie Broecker. I used actual photos of their faces and pasted them on the canvas using a collage technique. The other four women represent the first members of CAA. All of the women are thrilled to be getting together for our five-year anniversary celebration which, as of this writing, will take place the first week-end of Black History month, 2025. We will review our past accomplishments and make plans for our next three years. We will eat and dance and enthusiastically renew our commitment to rise up even higher for restorative and social justice.
